As authorized by City Council, Osborne Architects, Inc. (OAI) recently completed the attached Building Assessments and Evaluation report for six structures: the Nyholm Windmill, the barn at City Hall Campus, the Nelson Nature Park Garage, and the Barn, Residence and Garage at the Nelson Farm Park. This report is a reconnaissance level, “first look” visual survey where only descriptive information is collected about the buildings – further evaluation will be necessary before any action is taken. A draft of this report was recently reviewed with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (you can watch the meeting here) where several citizens made comment and shared their concerns.
City Staff is currently tasked with developing cost estimates to address OAI’s recommended stabilization actions. While there is no existing plan to take any action(s) on any of these structures, this report will be reviewed with the City Council as soon as staff’s stabilization cost estimates can be prepared. To address concerns the city intends to demolish any of these structures, the city has no plan or budget to remove any of the structures evaluated and, the OAI Assessment does not identify any structures as beyond repair. Please follow the City Council’s upcoming agendas for more information, and a new project page will be created on the City’s website for future updates.
